CSI 90 scrapbook page

This layout was my take on Case 90 at CSI.

Here is the colour scheme and the challenge prompts:

My background is simple stamp pads stamped direct to paper. The triangles were made by stamping through a triangle stencil, and then sewing roughly over them to link them together. The journalling is tucked under the photo. As you can see from the close up, the photo is raised up on foam pads to enable the journaling card to slip in underneath.

Scrapbook page: CSI#89

This week I participated once again in the challenge over at CSI. You can find the details of the challenge here. The layout journaling was prompted by the word 'art', as stated in the challenge.

Here's my layout:

The challenge included a page sketch to follow-here it is:
As you can see I followed it pretty closely! As coincidence would have it I had already printed the small photos off for another layout, but changed my mind about using them. When I saw the sketch and the prompt it all came together very easily.

One of the challenges was to use a straw to blow paint around on the page. Since I didn't have a straw in the house, I had to disassemble a ball point pen to use instead!!

Another of the challenges was to use brackets. These are Kaisercrafts diecut brackets. They were the wrong colour, so I just flipped them over, coloured them with a black marker, then used glossy accents to give them that lovely glossy finish.

Another one of the prompts was to use different fonts, and as you can see I used a few! The journaling is all hand stamped. I love the effect, but it was time consuming!!

Why not head over to CSI and join in the challenges?

Merly Impressions

Most of you will know that I recently joined the design team at Merly Impressions. Well, I've now received my first kit and done my first blog post on the Merly Blog, here. The kit I was sent contained papers and embellishments from Kaisercraft's 'Take note' collection. I LOVE this collection, great papers in a subtle neutral palette, and these co-ordinating diecuts make putting a page together a breeze!
The first layout I made uses snapshots taken shortly after my daughter was born.
Maybe you wouldn't normally use these colours for a layout about the birth of a baby girl, but I think they work well:
I had fun with this layout-gesso swiped across the background paper, acrylic paint spritzed and flicked across the paper too.

Then lots of layering up of papers and diecuts:

I think my favourite diecuts are little photo frames with the diecut word at the bottom:

The September challenge is up on the Merly Blog here. You have a chance to win a £25 voucher for Merly Impressions if you enter, so why not give it a go.
The challenge is to scrap with photos that are NOT 6x4.
Here's my example:

I'll be back soon to show you how I constructed that layout.

CSI Scrapbook Layout

Here's my layout for Challenge 88 at CSI.

The challenge was based on this picture, colours and theme:

So, here's a look at how I went about making the layout:

I chose a yellow circle patterned paper and spread gesso randomly around with a plastic card. Then I applied gesso through a stencil. I think this bingo stencil is from Crafter's Workshop.

Here's a close up of the stencil-see how the gesso adds a bit of dimension?

Next I used a number of alphabet stencils randomly over the page. The green is acrylic paint, the yellow and brown letters are Glimmer Mist.

I adhered a book page using PVA, and when it was almost dry I tried to rip it off the page leaving that lovely torn patchy look. After, I toned the print down with some gesso.

I forgot to take photos of the next steps, but basically I layered the papers, and adhered the photos, and some of the embellishments. Next I did the title and the journaling. After that I added some stamps relating to the theme-numbers. and a ruler too. Then came the rubons, and the staples. I decided to add the number line as this is the kind of thing often seen in a Primary classroom.

At that stage I thought I was done, but at the last minute had the ides to add the days of the week across the top, as these also are frequently displayed in a Primary classroom. So, once again, here's the final layout:

CSI Scrapbook Page

I did this layout for CSI.
I'm really enjoying playing along with the challenges on CSI. If you haven't investigated this site, you really should-especially if you want to push your creativity. I can't remember exactly what all the elements to choose from were for this layout. However,  I chose to use
map print, dashed lines, sunburst, travel accents.
and to spread journaling across three labels.

As you can see, I used a number of mixed media techniques/media to create my background, including stencilling, misting, dry brushed acrylic paint, bubble wrap with acrylic paint, and numerous stamps:

Here I used a sun burst stencil:
I'm loving using messy stuff just now. What about you? What's your favourite thing to use on your scrapbook pages just now?
